PORTASOUND

Listening to: Portasound - dreadnought

London 5 piece PORTASOUND are fucking awesome! They fuse soaring melodies, driving rhythms and wonky riffs they’ve created a genre bending soundtrack of instrumental electronica to accompany their own fictional narrative. Influenced by folk legends, classic novels and film narratives, they create a sense of filmic purpose in each of their songs.

The Second Renaissance EP is the band’s attempt to bring these narrative influences to life. It contains the story of a great cataclysm, the ensuing battle between light and dark forces, the creation of a rebellion and the birth of the hero.Brace yourselves for a high-speed 22 minute sonic journey atop a giant synth with the legs of a horse and head of a Minotaur!

I have worked closely with the band to try and tell this story though the 4 main pieces of artwork acompanying the artwork. 4 images for the four songs.

Portasound - The Second Renaissance
I. Dreadnought
II. Messerschmitt
III. To the Colours
IV. Polaris

I will post a full blog post of the making of, development and theory of the artwork when the record comes out.

A Video has been put together for the First single form the EP - Dreadnought:

THE WELCOME COMMITTEE

Last week I wrapped up this cover for The Welcome Committee. Lovely guys to work with they seemed pretty pleased with outcome - always great to have a satisfied customer.

Below is an alternative option i sent them that i thought you might be interested in seeing. I actually like the composition of this one but the darker night scene seems to capture the new record pretty well. I dont always send an alternative over but sometimes its just hard to pick!

BOARDGAME REMIX KIT

[portfolio_slideshow thumbs=false exclude="2962"]

Master game-makers/hackers Hide and Seek approached us to define the visual language and brand identity for their new invention 'The Boardhame Remix Kit'. The Kit ingeniously transforms Monopoly, Cluedo, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble into new games by redfining old rules and remixing the games together.

We designed them a 60 page print-on-demand book, a set of rule cards, an Iphone app and a website to neatly showcase all the finished products.

OPEN

Listening to: Calories

I am really proud to introduce you to our new home at OPEN, a new studio space we have been part of setting up, with some very talented cohorts.

OPEN is a new studio space for 10 illustrators, 2 educators, a screen printer and a publisher based in De Beauvoir Town, East London.

Our philosophy is to provide support, criticism, dialogue, fairness, opportunity, a sense of belonging and fresh ambition to both our creative work and independent businesses; and in turn help others to benefit from the same.

The two main objectives of Open are education and entrepreneurship.

Stay tuned for full profiles and plenty of news!

Open has been a long time in the making - and we are all super proud about what we are building here both physically and theoretically and we have only just started. Soon we will be opening our new Crit Club, a programme of out of education learning and discussion. So if you are an illustration graduate and are interested in coming to see us for a portfolio review, or just a chat, drop us a line.

Branding, Visual language, exhibition graphics and Website featuring an online shop.

Telegramme have been involved in the UK gig poster scene for a few years now, so its been great seeing it go from strength to strength.

Poster Roast Set up in 2007 by Chris White (3d Glasses), and now assisted by his future wife Alex Curtis (Thr33 Designs) Its intention is to help develop and promote Poster Artists within the UK. Initially a great opotunity for all the artists to get together, drink beer and watch thier favourite bands to the backdrop of their posters, has grown to the point the point that POSTERROAST.com is now THE one stop shop for the UK gig artists and collectors.

Telegramme have worked closely with Chris and Alex the whole way, to create a brand visual that reflects PR's humble beginnings but is ready to cover the eclectic styles of 15 + artists from around the country and is continually growing....

POSTER ROAST 2010

Listening to: Beach House – Teen Dream

So i survived the first Camden Crawl based POSTER ROAST of hopefully many more to come! Live printing, 4 killer bands, 15 + artists, 50+ beautiful posters,  strong rum,  many beers, 2 days taking over the black heart pub in camden and much carnage. This years event felt like the start of the uk poster scene really emerging and showing their huge collective talent for creating incredable artwork for incredible bands and having fun doing it with passion!
Set up in 2007 by Chris White (3d Glasses), and now assisted by his future wife Alex Curtis (Thr33 Designs) Its intention is to help develop and promote Poster Artists within the UK.

During each Poster Roast there is a curated exhibition of some of the most influential poster artists in the UK, there is also live screen printing throughout showing the process, and the option of leaving with your own freshly printed poster!

As the poster wouldn’t exist without the music, at each exhibition some of the finest bands play live sets for your ears to enjoy.

Posters are on sale throughout, and the majority of the artists are normally present, available to chat if you have any questions!

Creating affordable art for people is a large part of what these artists advocate and Poster Roast hopes that members of the public will enjoy being able to leave with something precious and unique.

I managed to meet loads of guys id yet to see outside of their online portfolios and caught up with guys i met over in flat stock Europe last year. Was great to see all of our efforts come together for the event and especially this super limited edition poster that was printed live at the venue while the bands destroyed!

This poster was a mass collaboration between 3d glasses,
Drew Millward, Luke Drozd, Army Of Cats, Thr33designs, Tape Ears,
Telegramme, Two Ducks Disco, Adam Pobiak and Dan Mumford.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase some work by all of these artists together so grab one of these commemorative posters while you can.

These were screenprinted live at Poster Roast and are limited to only 60. 2 colour on natural heavy stock. A2 size

GO BUY ONE HERE.

We have been working closely with the founders Chris and Alex on the identity and website for poster roast. Here is the first promotional flyer:

This week should see a full website, shop and forum go live for everyone to check out and buy some of these incredible artists works and find out a bit more about the emerging poster scene in the uk. keep your eyes peeled.

Big thanks to everyone involved especially Chris and Alex who have done an awesome job fo bringing all the guys together. Roll on Flatstock europe 5 in september!

We were asked by Wildlife Entertainment business to bring there now '20-odd' year old branding a little more up to date. These guys are a great management company representing the likes of the Arctic monkeys and the Last Shadow Puppets.

We gave them a simple, clean brand mark with a little retro influence.
All print is delivered on a lush, thick, cream recycled stock  reflecting a vintage quality.
